The Split Splat Apron is a split-leg apron that provides ample leg coverage for ceramicists and other crafters who want to protect their pants from messy projects. This design features three large patch pockets, cross-back straps to reduce neck fatigue, and an open back for easy access to pants pockets. This pattern is drafted for two different proportional fits to accommodate different bust/chest sizes and waist-to-hip ratios.
About linear and dynamic fits:
Our two fits are referred to as linear and dynamic, so as to avoid any gendered language, because bodies come in all shapes and sizes that don’t necessarily correlate to someone’s gender. A linear fit is more rectangular and boxy. A dynamic fit is designed to accommodate a curvier, more rounded figure. If your waist-to-hip and bust/chest-to-waist ratio fall into different proportional ranges, you can use top components from one range and bottom components from the other.
Recommended fabrics:
The Split Splat Apron works best in a medium-weight to heavyweight woven with little to no stretch and a soft hand. Some suitable options are:
• canvas
• denim
• linen
• twill
• broadcloth
• quilting cottons
Additional notions:
You will need a small piece of medium-weight woven or nonwoven fusible interfacing for the bib facing.

When printing either of the pattern files, be sure to print at actual size (100%) or select “do not scale” on your print screen. Use the 2” (5 cm) test square to check that your file has printed at the correct size. Scaling the pattern up or down from its intended size may result in the pattern pieces not fitting together properly.
All pattern files contain separate layers for each size, which can be turned off or on according to the sizes which you would like to print. Please note that this feature only works in Acrobat Reader. You can download Acrobat Reader software for free at this link: https://get.adobe.com/reader/
The large format/A0 files have also been optimized for use with a projector.
