Sew the Jet Set Bra and Constellation Panty with Lindsie of @sewbusty in this weekend-long workshop.
WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:
Join Lindsie of @sewbusty in the Spokes & Stitches studio May 3-4 for a bra and panty weekend retreat. Sew Busty just released their first sewing patterns earlier this year: the Jet Set Natural and Bullet Bras, and the Constellation Panty.
Over Saturday and Sunday, Lindsie and Spokes & Stitches studio owner/patternmaker Ruby Gertz will guide students through sewing and fitting a muslin of either bra, and then sewing up a final version in the provided fabric, as well as a panty to match.
Students who attend the course will have a custom-fit pattern, bra, and panty by the end of the course. Skills and concepts covered include sewing with elastic, inserting and understitching a lining, making adjustable straps with rings and sliders, and learning the fundamentals of bra sizing and fitting, especially for larger cup sizes.
All materials and patterns are included in the cost of the course. The Sew Busty patterns include a cup size range of 7-20cm bottom cup depth (2.75-7.875″) and a band size range that should fit most bodies up to 52″ (132cm) underbusts. The panty will fit waists 24-64″ (61-162.6cm) and hips 33-73″ (83.8-185.4cm). If you are outside of this range, Lindsie will custom-grade the pattern for you.
For all sizes: Lindsie will be preparing a custom pattern for each participant beforehand: please email lindsie@sewbusty.com after registering with the following measurements.
POLICIES:
Review all workshop policies in advance of registering here.
This course will run with a minimum of 4 students and is capped at 8 students.
Workshop registrations are non-refundable. Please double-check your schedule before signing up to ensure you are available on all dates the class meets.
CULTURE OF CONSENT:
This process is hands-on and requires collaboration among participants. By signing up for this workshop, you are agreeing to our ground rules of using body neutral language, and asking for consent before touching others. We will dedicate some time at the beginning of class to discussing expectations and group norms in more detail.
LOCATION & ACCESSIBILITY:
This class meets over one weekend, in person, on Saturday and Sunday from 10am-4:00pm.
The Spokes & Stitches studio is located in Firehouse Arts Germantown, at 5231 Germantown Avenue, B06, Philadelphia, PA 19144 (United States).
There is plenty of free street parking along Germantown Avenue, and the 23 SEPTA bus stops right in front of the building at the corner of Germantown and Bringhurst. There is also a bike rack in front of Tipsy Cafe, next door. We are a half mile walk from the Wister stop on SEPTA regional rail.
Unfortunately, the studio is on the basement level of the building, down a flight of stairs, and not wheelchair accessible.
DO I NEED TO BRING ANYTHING?
No. All of the materials you will need are included in your workshop fee (patterns, fabric, elastic, rings and sliders). There are also communal tools in the studio (sewing machines, tape measures, pins, scissors, etc.) that you can use throughout the workshop. If you prefer to bring your own sewing machine or fabric shears, you are welcome to do so, but it isn't necessary.
We will take a 1-hour lunch break each day. Please bring a brown-bag lunch with you on each day. There is a mini-fridge, microwave, and electric kettle in the building should you need it. There are also several takeout restaurants and grocery stores within a short walk or drive of the building.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
Wear comfortable clothing that is easy to change in and out of, since we will be conducting fittings in the studio. There is a folding screen we will use to block off a corner of the room, which students can change behind.
DO I NEED SEWING EXPERIENCE TO SIGN UP FOR THIS?
This workshop is geared toward the advanced beginner. You should feel confident operating a sewing machine and cutting out fabric from a pattern, but no prior bra-making experience is necessary.
