Virtual Clo3D Sloper Workshop: Learn the Basics of Patternmaking in 3D

Drape and draft a basic bodice, skirt, and sleeve to fit a custom avatar using Clo3D. 

WORKSHOP DESCRIPTION:

Curious about drafting your own sewing patterns using Clo3D? This program has the potential to save you material and labor by working with a virtual simulation to get you past that “first fitting” stage.

In this 4-session course, professional patternmaker Ruby Gertz will guide students through designing a custom avatar in Clo3D and then creating custom blocks for a bodice, skirt, and sleeve. 

Skills and concepts covered will include an introduction to the Clo3D layout and basic functions, how to customize your avatar, and how to create and fit bodice, skirt, and sleeve patterns using the program. We will also be going over how to add seam allowance and print out your pattern or create a projector file so that you can sew from it in real life.

Please note that Clo3D is a paid software program that costs $50/month for individual use. A subscription is NOT included in the workshop fee. However, there is a free 30-day trial that you can use for the duration of the workshop as long as you sign up and download the program within a week of the workshop start date.

This course will run with a minimum of 4 students and is capped at 10 students.

Workshop registrations are non-refundable. Please double-check your schedule before signing up to ensure you are available on all dates the class meets.

LOCATION & ACCESSIBILITY:

This workshop meets online via Zoom, on Tuesdays and Thursdays for 2 weeks, from 4pm-6pm Eastern. Live attendance is encouraged, but sessions will be recorded and shared with participants if you miss a session.

Body size constraints: Clo3D avatars are currently customizable up to 70" girth measurements. If you would like to design basic blocks for bodies larger than the maximum measurements, you will need to grade a pattern up from the largest avatar available. 

DO I NEED ANYTHING SPECIFIC FOR THIS WORKSHOP?

Yes, you will need to download Clo3D in advance of our first workshop.

It is also recommended that you have a secondary computer screen, so that you can follow along with the demo during the live calls. 

You should also have a 3-button mouse with a right and left button and a scroll wheel. 

WHAT KIND OF EXPERIENCE DO I NEED TO SIGN UP FOR THIS?

It is highly recommended that you have at least basic sewing skills and a basic understanding of sewing patterns before taking this class. It will also be helpful if you have digitial design skills in other programs, such as Adobe, Canva, Affinity, Inkscape, etc. If you find general computer functions difficult or challenging, this workshop will probably feel too advanced.
